Bible Story

Adam & Eve
Genesis 2:4-3:24

The Story of Adam and Eve

In the beginning, God created a beautiful garden called the Garden of Eden. He placed the first man, Adam, in the garden to take care of it. God saw that Adam needed a helper, so He created the first woman, Eve. They lived in the garden where they were happy and could eat from all the trees—except one!

God told Adam and Eve that they should not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. One day, a serpent tricked Eve into eating the fruit from that tree. Eve gave some to Adam, and he ate it too. Right away, they realized they had disobeyed God, and they were ashamed. They tried to hide from God behind the bushes in the garden.

God called to them, and even though they had disobeyed, He showed them love and took care of them. He gave them clothes and sent them out of the garden to live in the world outside. This is the story of the first humans and the first choice to disobey God. But even in their mistake, God’s love for Adam and Eve never changed.

Materials You’ll Need

Before you get started, make sure you have everything on hand:

  • Two paper plates
  • Printout of Adam and Eve Templates (below)
  • Crayons, markers, and/or paint
  • Scissors (to cut out the templates and paper plate)
  • Glue stick or liquid glue
  • Google eyes or stickers (optional, but definitely fun for a silly touch!)
  • Small faux flowers or fabric scraps (optional, to add decor to the garden)
  • Pre-cut paper shapes (optional, to make the tree easy for younger kids)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Paint the Plates
Start by painting the inside of one paper plate yellow—this will be the background where Adam and Eve will be placed. Let the yellow paint dry completely.

Next, paint the back of the second plate green—this plate will be the bushy area where Adam and Eve are hiding. Allow the green paint to dry.

2. Cut the Green Plate for the Bushes
Take the green plate and cut out a section from the center to create the look of bushes or foliage. You can make jagged cuts to mimic leaves or bushes. This is where Adam and Eve will “hide” behind, and the open section will allow them to peek out when moved.

3. Color and Prepare the Adam and Eve Templates
Print out the Adam and Eve templates and let the kids color them with markers, crayons, or paints. If you want to make it extra fun, add small googly eyes to give their faces some personality! Cut out the finished templates once they’re colored.

4. Attach Adam and Eve to the Popsicle Sticks
Take the colored Adam and Eve templates and glue them to the top of the popsicle sticks. This way, Adam and Eve can be moved up and down, hidden or revealed, by sliding the sticks.

5. Assemble the Plates
Now it’s time to put everything together! Place the yellow plate (with the painted side facing up) flat on your workspace. Position the green plate on top of the yellow plate with the green side facing out. Make sure to leave a gap at the bottom so that the popsicle sticks can move up and down freely.

6. Attach the Plates
Once you’re happy with the positioning, glue the edges of the two plates together. Make sure the gap at the bottom is large enough for the popsicle sticks to slide smoothly, but not too large that the plates won’t stay together. Let everything dry.

7. Move Adam and Eve
Once everything is dry, your Adam and Eve characters are ready to move! The popsicle sticks allow the characters to slide up and down behind the “bushes,” so you can make it look like they’re hiding or stepping out from behind the bushes. This interactive component adds a fun element to the craft and makes the Biblical story of Adam and Eve come to life.

This Adam and Eve craft makes it easy for kids to interact with the story as they recreate the key moment in the Garden of Eden. By adding the popsicle sticks and movable elements, you’re bringing the story to life in a way that’s fun, creative, and educational!

Final Touches and Ideas for Fun:

  • Interactive Storytelling: Use this craft as a way to tell the story! As you move Adam and Eve behind the bushes, you can talk about the moment when they ate the forbidden fruit and were then ashamed, hiding behind the bushes in the Garden of Eden. This will make the story come to life in a tangible, visual way for the kids.
  • Optional Additions: You could add additional details to the background, like flowers, trees, or animals in the garden, to make the scene even more colorful and engaging!

Fun Variations for Extra Creativity

  • Animal Friends: Since the Garden of Eden was home to so many animals, why not add a few more creatures to the scene? Think snakes, birds, or even some fun, colorful butterflies. These little additions can help spark even more storytelling.
  • Textured Fun: For sensory-loving kiddos, why not add a little texture? Use cotton balls for clouds in the sky, or glue some fabric scraps to create a more 3D look for the leaves. The possibilities are endless!

Learning Through Crafting

Beyond the hands-on fun, there’s a lot of learning that happens during this activity. Here are a few educational points to bring up while crafting:

  • Colors & Shapes: You’ll be working with all kinds of fun shapes—circles for heads, triangles for trees, and ovals for leaves. It’s a perfect way to sneak in a little geometry while you’re having a blast!
  • Fine Motor Skills: From coloring to gluing, this craft provides loads of opportunities to practice fine motor skills. Watch as your little ones develop their hand-eye coordination while they work on cutting, pasting, and painting.
  • Biblical Lesson: As you craft, talk about the story of Adam and Eve and what it means to be the first humans in God’s creation. You can discuss the beauty of the Garden of Eden, the choices Adam and Eve made, and how God’s love for us is part of this foundational story.

Wrap It Up!

This Adam and Eve Paper Plate Craft is more than just a cute activity—it’s a creative, engaging way to reinforce the biblical story of the first humans.
